Oktoberfest

September 7 through November 2

Hop on the Free Big Bear Trolley for a complimentary ride to/from the Big Bear Lake Convention Center (home to Oktoberfest). With over 30 bus stops throughout Big Bear Valley, Oktoberfest encourages you to leave the car keys at home and let someone else do the driving. Not only does this help resolve limited parking issues and traffic congestion, but can be a safer alternative after a night of celebrating at Oktoberfest! Free Big Bear Trolley runs from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Convention Center.

See Route & Stop Maps

Located in the forested town of Big Bear Lake, the annual Oktoberfest continuously ranks among the top Southern California festivals each year. This authentic German celebration highlights family, friendship, and togetherness.

TICKET PURCHASE

Come hungry for a German feast. Enjoy bratwurst, knockwurst, and kielbasa with home-style sauerkraut and Bavarian dumplings. Dip into the beer cheese soup, and colossal pretzels. Save room for desert because the German apple strudel and warm vanilla sauce is a dream come true!

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest has a solid reputation for German beers: raise a stein of Spaten, Franziskaner, Warsteiner and Konig Ludwig.

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest contests give revelers a chance to compete for prizes and bragging rights. Each contest is held to entertain participants and onlookers. Try your skills at the stein holding matches, log sawing competitions, the safe slam beer drinking races (non-alcoholic), and the annual Queen Stein Carrying Contest.

Children’s contest include the Pretzel Toss and the Kiddy Mug Holding Matches. Contests give kids a chance to show their parents their fun game skills and parents are welcome to take videos!

Each year, Oktoberfest brings authentic Bavarian bands straight from Germany to be the soundtrack for this fall season event. Hit the dance floor to a range of music like polka, waltzes, and modern pop. And be sure you don’t miss out on the Chicken Dance!

The sizzling Bratwursts are hot off the grill served with homemade Sauerkraut, and the fresh pretzels and apple strudel make it a feast fit for the whole family.

It’s not a celebration without music and games. Invite the whole crew to dance about the Maypole and jive along to live bands playing traditional German tunes. Bring the kids to enjoy activities and don’t miss entertainment like log sawing contests, stein holding competitions, a Pol Schmücken contest and Corn Hole!

Maifest 2024 (Mini-Oktoberfest's)

May 25 & 26, 2024

Save the Date: May 18, 25 & 26, 2024 and stay tuned for ticket sales.

Everyone loves Oktoberfest, but have you experienced Maifest? Known as Oktoberfest’s little sister, Maifest is the traditional German festival celebrating the spring season – and Memorial Day Weekend – in Big Bear Lake!

This May 18, Maifest kicks off for two weekends in a row:

Saturday, May 18

Saturday, May 25

Sunday, May 26

Raise a stein to the season and enjoy traditional German springfest beers like Maibock and fruity libations like Maibowle – Champagne-style punch.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 25-26, 2024

Dates: May 25-26, 2024
Location: 630 Bartlett Road in The Village at Big Bear Lake
Hours:
 10 AM – 5 PM both days
Tickets: Admission is FREE! But boost your Grill & Chill experience when you reserve one of these event packages:

  • $55 Unlimited beer tasting (early bird pricing)
  • $100 VIP Package includes 1 BBQ meal ticket and commemorative beer stein with unlimited beer tastings (early bird pricing)

TICKETS

Parking shuttles will be making the rounds from all parking lots in The Village to the event site on Bartlett Rd. Save yourself from any parking hassles and take the Free Big Bear Trolley from your accommodations to The Village to enjoy the Grill & Chill.

Bring your appetite to this year’s Grill & Chill. This mouthwatering event brings the best of America’s BBQ to Big Bear! Dig into sizzling ribs, brisket, pork butt, and more at dedicated food trucks. This year, all food sales will take place directly with food truck vendors on site. No ticket books will be sold.

A BBQ just isn’t a BBQ without a beer in hand. The Big Bear Lake Grill & Chill includes a two-day beer tasting event in tandem with the BBQ festival. Over 40 breweries are lined up to give attendees a sample pour of their craft beers and special brews. So raise a glass and sip to the servicemen and women who defend us everyday.

Grill & Chill is always a family friendly event, so bring out the kids to enjoy a range of activities including:

  • Bounce Houses
  • Balloon Animals
  • Climbing Wall
  • Face Painting

Kids’ activities wrist bands are $10 at any ticket booth.

Last year’s popular band Tommy Drinkard & The Remedy return to entertain patrons of the Grill & Chill on both days! Admission to the festival is free so stop by for some great live music and enjoy some beer and BBQ along the way.

Shop vendor booths among the food trucks and brewery stalls. Each year, the Grill & Chill festival hosts jewelry, clothing, candy, and other unique vendor booths.

From San Bernardino County Fire Protection District:

The Fireworks Spectacular explodes over Big Bear Lake every July 4th and is FREE to spectators. Local radio station KBHR airs a musical accompaniment to the show on 93.3 FM and 102.5 FM.

Thursday, July 4, 2024. Snow Summit, 880 Summit Blvd. 7 – 10 PM

Take your 4th of July to new heights at the Above the Boom fireworks viewing party featuring a Scenic Sky Chair ride, live DJ music, and panoramic views of Southern California’s largest 4th of July fireworks show.

Big Bear Lake’s Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day fireworks can be viewed from around the valley, but just where are the best spots? Keep reading for our picks on fireworks viewing spots.

Lakeside

  1. Stanfield Cutoff – the land bridge connecting the north and south shores offering incredible viewing, but find your spot early.
  2. North Shore – Most of the land along the north shore is open to the public and offering great viewing.
  3. Alpine Pedal Path – This paved trail along the north shore is set back from the shoreline but is a prime viewing spot if you’ve got strollers in tow or if members of your party need level walking ground.
  4. On the south shore, Rotary Park, Veteran’s Park, and Ski Beach offer lake views for watching fireworks.

From the Trails

While viewpoints from along the trails can be great, hiking trails at night present hazards. If you choose to hike after dark, be sure you’re using safety measures like bright flashlights and dress for warmth.

  1. Cougar Crest – This north shore trail offers excellent lake views.
  2. Towne Trail X 2N08 – This intersection offers lake views above The Village.

On The Water

  1. The #1 spot for fireworks viewing is on the lake. If you’re reserving a boat, it is likely you’ll need a reservation for this special event. Each marina will have different procedures so be sure to reach out to them directly.
